A smart way to keep your travel plans at your fingertips.

Worldia is a travel technology company that empowers travel agencies and distributors to create and sell fully customizable, connected trips through its white-label B2B2C platform, offering real-time pricing, curated content, and end-to-end support across more than 80 global destinations. Before this project, once on site, travelers could only follow their itinerary using a printed guide, resulting in gaps in information access and communication during the trip.
The challenge was to create a mobile app that could provide a seamless travel experience on-site, aligning with the brand's tech-friendly image and staying competitive.

Objective
Design a mobile experience that provides seamless, real-time access to travel information and becomes the single source of truth during the trip.
Success metrics
Improve user satisfaction (NPS, App Store rating)
Increase itinerary consultation rate
Drive app adoption and retention
Reduce friction in document access
Approach
We worked with the FOCUSED method, from the book Discovery Discipline by Tristan Charvillat; we wanted to try a more structured and potentially more effective approach than the usual 'Double Diamond', emphasizing iterative design and user insights.
frame
I analyzed previous Worldia projects to identify why they failed: non-incremental development, lack of user research.
observe
I conducted 5 user interviews and I synthesized findings in an affinity diagram.

📄 Document Management: Travelers manage documents poorly, often relying on printed PDFs
📱 App Usage: Existing apps cover only parts of the trip; no single source of truth
⚠️ Pain Points: Managing travel documents is complicated, especially for long trips. Documents can be lost or hard to locate, whether stored online or physically.
🚀 Expectations: Users want easy access to information, inspiration, and on-the-spot bookings
claim
I ran internal focus group with the sales team to align marketing messaging. I highlighted real-time updates and “wow effect” to boost adoption.
unfold
I defined and implemented key touchpoints to ensure app visibility and adoption:
Onboarding email campaign for travelers
Training sessions during agency masterclasses
Banner on the platform homepage
Transactional emails highlighting app features
QR code in the printed travel roadbook
Steal
I conducted competitive benchmarking by identifiying reusable patterns ("Gold Nuggets") to strengthen app design.

execute
I designed a functional prototype including:
Onboarding screen
Importing the trip into the app
Full travel itinerary view
Detailed information for each part of the trip
Travel guide for the destination country
Essential travel documents access
Direct contact with Worldia through the app

decide
I conducted qualitative user testing sessions to validate whether the solution worked in real conditions - assessing comprehension, usability, and identifying any blocking issues before development.
Results
Key metrics
⭐ 4.9★ App Store (92 reviews) – above industry avg. (4.67★)
📈 79% active usage (D2C) – strong adoption & retention
📉 37% active usage (B2B2C) – slower start, needs onboarding support
Key learnings
✅ Iterative design, guided by user insights, delivers higher adoption
✅ Early validation reduces risk and aligns stakeholders
✅ Clear communication of design decisions is critical for cross-functional collaboration
Areas for improvement
⚠️ Structure our data analytics approach to better track usage
⚠️ Strengthen communication with agencies to amplify product visibility
This project demonstrated how an insight-driven and iterative approach can significantly improve product adoption and user satisfaction.
By focusing on real user needs and validating key assumptions early, we were able to design a solution that effectively supports travelers throughout their journey.
The strong adoption rates and high app ratings confirmed the relevance of the experience and the value it brings to users.
However, the project also highlighted the limitations of our data tracking capabilities at the time. Due to a lack of maturity in analytics, it was difficult to fully measure user behavior and feature performance. Strengthening this foundation would have enabled more informed decisions and continuous optimization of the experience.
